Have you ever sat by a large body of water and contemplated life? Maybe you paid attention to the wind and the waves and thought about how sometimes they resemble the different seasons of life. Some days the waters are pristine and so calm that they seem unflappable. On other days, the tides are so ferocious that it's unsafe to inch near.
Some of my deepest ponderings happen as I look over Lake Michigan, where I live. I stop in my tracks - sometimes for a quick moment, and other times for several. I find myself thinking about how small my life is in comparison to all that's out there. Some days I soak in the calm while others I'm blasted by wind as I observe the lake's volatility.
The ebbs and flows of life feel like they compare well with the rhythms of these large bodies of water. After one of my most treacherous seasons, I purchased these three paintings to hang in my office: The Wave, After the Storm, and Still Afloat. They are reminders that the waves do come, that there is an aftermath, but no matter what - I want to live a life that in spite of trauma and hardships represents one that is more than just "Still Afloat."
StoryWave Studio is here for those who want to go beyond "Still Afloat." Many of us find guilt and shame in our stories, and we experience how trauma disconnects us. The journey of healing and owning our individual and collective journeys is what takes us beyond the concept of "Still Afloat" and gives us permission to fully live.
Coming out on the other side is no straight line, but let's ride the waves together, own who we are, and allow ourselves to evolve through the process.
